Section 1 - the DOJO
Some students will train at the Honbu (Main) Dojo on Soho Hill. This is an intro video showing our dojo and what you can expect when visiting.
Although you may not train at Soho Hill, all students will be required to come to this dojo in order to grade.

Section 2 - UNIFORM
After joining Zen-Shin you will be given your Gi (Karate Uniform).
The following video explains how to wear it correctly, and how to tie your belt.
Section 3 - Student's Creed
For any students aged between 4-11, they will not receive their white belt until they can say the Student’s Creed by themself, in front of the class.
The following video goes through the Student’s Creed so you can practice.
Students aged 12+ will not be tested on this to get their white belt, however should still learn it.
I intend to develop myself in a positive manner, and to avoid anything that will reduce my mental growth, or my physical health.
I intend to develop self discipline, in order to bring out the best in myself and others.
I intend to use what I learn in class, constructively and defensively, to help myself and my fellow man, and never to be abusive or offensive.
Section 4 - Belts and Grading
To get the next belt, students must take a grading. A grading is a chance to show the examiners your karate skills, understanding, and progression.
Gradings happen once every 3 months. 18 classes must be attended before the next grading.
Students that train at least 2 times a week or more can grade every 3 months.
Students that train once a week can grade every 6 months.
The syllabus contains all the material you needs to learn to get your next belt. Your Sensei should be regularly going through this in your class.
A blue ‘tip’ on your belt means you have been spotlighted by your Sensei in class, and they think you are good enough to grade, and have done enough classes.
When unsure, please speak to your Sensei.
